The Law of November 4, 1987 relating to the protection of topographies of semi-conductor products and the Decree for implementing the same of November 2, 1989, have created a specific protection ; these are incorporated into the Intellectual Property Code :

• Deposit (L.622-1, L.622-2, L.622-3 et L.622-4)
• Rights dependent on the deposit (L.622-5, L.622-6 and L.622-7)
• Regulation : Articles R.622-1 to R.622-8
• Courts Competent to Hear Proceedings : Article R.631-1

The French Patent Office provides for the registration and the publication of the filings. The protection is granted for 10 years.
In 1999, 44 filings have been made before the French Patent Office.
