Reinforcement of the cooperation between OHIM and WIPO as to the trade mark classification

10.12.2009

OHIM and WIPO have signed on 03/12/2009 an agreement aiming to expand cooperation on trade mark classification.

According to this agreement, OHIM will share its classification list of goods and services terms with WIPO.
OHIM's list comprises at present over 100,000 terms translated into 22 languages, and has been harmonized with the UK, German and Swedish offices.  Furthermore, an harmonization with more EU offices is foreseen.
For Wubbo de Boer, OHIM president, this agreement is an important breakthrough to enhance transparency in global trade mark classification and thereby removing complications for trade mark users.
